THE JOURNEY HOME

Tentative Schedule: Projected Dates and/or Arrivals
(note: this is the schedule for the First Ride. The Second Ride schedule will be posted ASAP)

NOTE; Due to the fact that everything is scheduled around the condition of and the adaptability of, the horses, the dates specified below, are SPECULATIVE ONLY! Firm dates can only be given as the actual ride progresses. We will endeavor to keep everyone updated daily as to our progress. There may be circumstances occurring that demand we "trailer" the animals in order to make up time and you will be informed.

September 1, 2002; Ceremonies and departure/parade from steps of State Capitol Building here in Phoenix, to MARGARET T. HANCE PARK. 9:00 a.m. time will be given for any media interviews, etc. Horses and riders will be transported to Queen Creek Road on I-10 east, where ride will began. We will begin with 10 miles per day in Order to condition the Animals.

September 2, 2002: Town of Sacatone on the Gila Indian Reservation, approximately 30 miles east of north of I-10 east.

September 9, 2002 This date should see us at the Tucson City limits. Initially, at all major cities, Animals will be transported through to the east side of town unless that particular City has something planned.

September 10 through 16, 2002; leave the Triple "T" Truck stop, at the Craycroft Exit on I-10, to Hwy. 91. Men and animals will probably be transported to Ft. Huachuca and back to I-10, through Benson, AZ and Texas Canyon.

September 17 through 23, 2002: Ride to 'Wilcox, AZ., to present Certificate for the late Rex Allen, Sr., to the museum, establishing him as Colonel of the Regiment. From there to the Shady Grove Truck Stop, 12 Miles west of Lordsburg, NM. We will trailer north to Silver City/Ft. Bayard, NM., to pick up more soil samples, then back to I-10 and Lordsburg, NM.

September 29, 2002: This date should have us in Deming, New Mexico.

October 4, 2002: This date should have us in Los Cruces, New Mexico.

October 6, 2002: This date should have us at the Texas/New Mexico state line, at Anthony, TX.

Trailer into El Paso, Texas. Depending on the town, Ft. Bliss and the Sergeant Majors Academy will determine if we are in that area until Oct. 8, 2002.

October 10 through 30, 2002: This Date should find us in Ft. Stockton, Texas and San Angelo/Ft. Concho, Texas with two days at Stockton and time at the ranch of Ed and Mary Stabler just outside of San Angelo.

November 4, 2002: This date should have us at Fort McKavitt, Texas, south and west of San Angelo. This is where we leave the soil from the grave of Isiah Mays, Corporal, 24th Infantry, Medal Of Honor Recipient. This is the birthplace of the 24th U.S. Infantry, (colored).

November 12, 2002: This date should have us at Fort Hood, Texas. Two days are tentatively planned, then ride to Waco, Texas.

November 13, 14, 2002: This date should have us at Waco, Texas. From here, we trailer back to Killeen, then ride to Austin, Texas.

November 16, 2002; This date should have us in Austin, with two days planned (maximum).

November 21, 2002: This date should have us in San Antonio, Texas, spending one and one-half days. Respects to be paid at the Alamo. We should be leaving early on November 24.

NOTE; This leaves us approximately three weeks to get to New Orleans. More transporting may have to be done other than what has already been stated.

November 24, 2002 ; Ride the full day and Transport to within fifty miles of Houston to have time for their ceremonies. Also, Mr. Carruth Byrd will be hosting us at his ranch and is planning to "ride, a-ways" with us.

November 29, 2002: This date should have us in Beaumont, Texas, and transport into Louisiana.

We have not worked out the routing with the State of Louisiana at this time, but as soon as we have it, all parties will be notified.
